About WANTED

Texas, 1893. Twin sisters Mary and Martha Clarke are on the run. As Black women who pass for white, they move through a dangerous divide between two Americas while fighting to protect their mother and their family’s legacy. The musical follows the sisters’ struggle for self-determination, dignity, and an inheritance denied to them, with the Kinfolk—a chorus of ancestors—guiding their story. The production is inspired by a long-held family story.

A little more context

A story built around a family legacy

The show’s official synopsis frames the Clarke sisters’ story around family, survival, freedom, and the cost of being forced to hide in plain sight. Its sound and staging place this historical story inside a contemporary Broadway musical, while the Kinfolk give the sisters’ journey an ancestral dimension.

The official FAQ recommends the show for ages 10 and older and mentions themes of violence, adventure, and Western life. Review the show’s current guidance when planning for younger audience members.
