A life story told in different chapters
The musical follows Dolly Parton’s story in her own words and through the songs that shaped her career. Katie Rose Clarke plays Dolly Parton, Carrie St. Louis plays Dolly at another stage of the story, and Norah Nunes portrays Little Dolly.
John Behlmann plays Carl Dean, Gabriel Ebert plays Porter Wagoner, and Crystal Kellogg plays Judy Ogle. The casting separates periods in Parton’s life while keeping her music and voice at the center.
A score of familiar hits and new songs
The official production lists songs including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You,” alongside new music written for the musical. The result draws on Parton’s catalog while adding songs composed for this theatrical story.
Book by Dolly Parton and Maria S. Schlatter; direction by Bartlett Sher. The music team includes Stephen Oremus as music supervisor and Charity Wicks as music director.
